Joe Namath stole social media on Super Bowl Sunday – with his humongous fur coat. “Broadway Joe” showed up for the coin toss in a fur coat reminiscent of the infamous Ikea Monkey.

Twitter was abuzz with the hashtag #joenamathscoat minutes after it made it’s debut.

This wasn’t the first time fur was his fashion choice for the Super Bowl.

Namath, who played for the University of Alabama under Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant in the 60s and for the New York Jets for most of his professional career, is seen in this photo from 1971, wearing a long white fur coat.

Here he is again in 1974.

It seems the coat made up for the fact he muffed the coin toss.
