CHICKASAW, Ala. – An elderly Chickasaw man was in intensive care in the hospital Saturday after he was beaten and stabbed in his home Monday. Family members are hoping police will catch whoever is responsible.
Donald Johnson is convinced whoever robbed his wife’s 86-year-old uncle intended to kill him.
“He had been stabbed 5 times possibly 6 in the side and the back, and he was beaten in the head, and several other places all over I guess,” Johnson said.
Carrol Jordan is expected to recover from the brutal attack. He remains in intensive care at USA Medical Center. Since he was brought in Monday, he’s had to undergo surgery for two aneurysms doctors discovered.
Johnson said the thieves stole his uncle’s 42 inch television, but they didn’t get far with it.
“They also took his big screen TV that was sitting on top over here, and it was dropped in the back yard from them running,” he said.
Johnson said a neighbor may have saved Jordan’s life. Pam Cartwell said she and her 4-year-old grandson went to the house to borrow some margarine. However, Cartwell said it wasn’t Jordan who answered the door.
“The young man opened the door, and I said what are you doing here. He backed back and I walked in and I saw Mr. Jordan lying on the floor gasping for air, and I turned around, and I said what you done did, and he ran out the door,” Cartwell said.
The neighbor called 911, and stayed with Jordan until help arrived.
She also saw two others outside the house.
“The young girl ran out my backyard. She might have been in my back shed. She ran down that way. The young man that she saw, he ran down the alley,” she said.
Johnson said they hope to learn more about what happened inside the home when Jordan is well enough to talk to police.
“He’s 86 years old, he lives alone, and he tries to be friends to everybody around here,” he said.
Police confirm there may have been three people involved in the attack and robbery.
