A benefit for Meta McCormick, injured after a truck crashed through the convenience store where she worked in Leakesville, Mississippi has begun.
Friends of McCormick sent this photo of the beginning of the event, which is taking place at Leakesville Junior High School.
The 53 year-old woman is recovering from multiple injuries in a Hattiesburg hospital. A little more than two weeks ago, a truck smashed into The Junction convenience store where she worked.
Family and friends say it could be months before she can walk again. Doctors, they say, are amazed at McCormick’s will to recover from her injuries.
Mississippi State Troopers are investigating the accident. Investigators say an 18 year-old male was behind the wheel of the pickup when it crashed though the store.
Saturday’s benefit features food, music and bake sales as well as a motorcycle ride where four hundred are scheduled to participate.
