Veterans of the Krewe De La Dauphine Mardi Gras parade on Dauphin Island said folks needed to get there early in order to find a good place to watch the fun.
The parade began at 1 p.m. at historic Fort Gaines and will travel west past Dauphin Island School.
Thousands of people usually attend this annual event, which kicks off the Mardi Gras Season in the Mobile area.
Dauphin Island officials expect more than twenty thousand parade goers this year. Organizers of the event tell Fox10News the parade comes at a good time after a week of extreme cold, ice and winter weather.
Traffic officials on the island advised people who were planning to attend today’s parade to start their commute early because of the heavy traffic congestion expected on the Dauphin Island Bridge.
