JACKSON, Ala. (WALA) – Cars and trucks were forced to creep across the Tombigbee Bridge on Highway 43 dividing Washington and Clarke counties, as snow and freezing rain accumulated on the bridge.
About an hour after the freezing rain, snow and sleet started Tuesday morning, the top of the bridge quickly iced over.
A heavy equipment machine grader was brought to plow the bridge. The driver who was making several passes over the bridge said crews were still waiting for the snow plow to arrive.
Another crew set up barricades on the side of the bridge if the order comes to close it. At noon the traffic was still moving over the bridge.
