Senior Bowl officials have confirmed AJ McCarron has declined an invitation to play in the bowl game.
It had been reported earlier by the NFL that McCarron, a Mobile native and University of Alabama quarterback, would be skipping the 2014 Senior Bowl.
FOX10′s Russell Colburn asked McCarron during the Sugar Bowl post-game conference if he’s be accepting an invite.
McCarron responded by saying, “I’m not thinking about that right now. I’m trying to enjoy this last moment with my teammates and enjoy this time with my family, and then when I announce it, you’ll hear it.”
“AJ McCarron has declined our invitation to play in the 2014 Reese’s Senior Bowl. We are very excited about the deep and talented roster of 100-plus players coming to Mobile,” said senior Bowl Director Phil Savage.
According to NFL.com, McCarron’s choice to not play in his hometown all-star game was a “business decision”, but one that he will most likely be criticized for.
McCarron took to his Twitter account shortly after the announcement was made.
